The host city of GREEN×EXPO 2027, Yokohama, will exhibit at two sites under the concept “Opening up the world’s tomorrow, together.” The indoor site is Tsunagu Yokohama-kan (CIRCULAR LINK YOKOHAMA Hub), a hands-on facility of about 3,000 m² in the Urban GX Village. It invites visitors to experience eco-friendly lifestyles, companies’ advanced technologies and the circular city Yokohama is aiming for, using all five senses. Previously called the “information hub using building space,” it received its name on September 29, 2026. The city’s other site, CIRCULAR LINK YOKOHAMA Field, is in the SATOYAMA Village.
Exhibits
- Lifestyle zone (“Connecting daily life to tomorrow”): small, everyday actions that lead to a greener future. Giant symbol works about 4 meters tall, themed on an elephant, clothing and flowers, come from the city’s STYLE100 initiative for living within the means of one planet.
- Future zone (“Connecting technology to the future”): companies’ advanced technologies and Yokohama’s future.
As of September 30, 2026, the city listed 25 sponsorship agreements for technology exhibits. They range from energy (Tokyo Gas group’s circular energy system using e-methane and fuel cells, perovskite solar cells from the Mitsubishi Gas Chemical group and YKK AP, floating offshore wind from Toda) and resource circulation (AGC’s flat-glass recycling, JFE Engineering’s electricity-and-fertilizer loop, Sotetsu’s biodiesel buses) to CO₂ capture (Kajima group’s CO₂-SUICOM concrete, Revcell’s system that turns captured CO₂ into a resource), food and nature (Euglena group’s algae-and-biochar soil, Nara Construction group’s aquaponics) and others such as IHI’s Epsilon rocket exhibit.
Residents are helping to build the exhibits through roughly 20 workshops with about 3,000 participants. The elephant is made with parts from cut bamboo, and the clothing piece from donated fabrics. Workshops on October 17–18 and 25, 2026 (no registration needed) will make wildlife mobiles from coloring sheets and paint the “YOKOHAMA” sign for the building’s east wall.
Architecture
The building is clad in domestic timber that shows off the wood grain. It reuses materials from the Osaka-Kansai Expo, and its parts will be reused at schools and public facilities in Yokohama after the Expo. Media coverage of the half-year briefing reported solar panels on the roof and a square monument with benches made from Grand Ring wood. The Expo association handed the building over to the city on September 8, 2026, and interior and exterior work is under way. Staff uniforms designed by Ryohin Keikaku (MUJI) use clothing collected from residents and single-material recycled polyester.
