Sakata Seed Corporation, a seed company headquartered in Yokohama, is setting up a special exhibition hall themed “Seed Journey” in the Farm & Food Village as part of its Flower & Greenery Exhibition at GREEN×EXPO 2027. The group’s exhibition concept is “Plant the Seeds. Grow Our Future.” In total, five exhibits are planned: the special hall, a garden, two short-term indoor exhibitions, and a garden by a group company.
Sakata Seed does not appear on the Expo Association’s list of “Village exhibitors.” It is listed among the Flower & Greenery exhibitors (outdoor and short-term indoor), and on March 19, 2026 Sakata Seed announced that it had been formally confirmed as an outdoor Flower & Greenery exhibitor. The special hall is part of that exhibition.
Highlights and exhibits
Special exhibition hall “Seed Journey” (Farm & Food Village)
A hands-on exhibition that conveys the wonder and vitality of seeds through sight, sound, touch and scent. Plans announced on September 15, 2026 include real seed displays, a roughly three-minute film telling the story of the future that grows from a single seed, content that lets visitors try part of a seed company’s work (breeding, seed production and quality control), and exhibits where visitors can touch flower and vegetable seeds and enjoy their texture and scent. The hall’s exterior will be covered with plant illustrations, and Sakata suggests visiting the hall first before heading out to the garden.
Garden “Hyakka-Sairan: A Celebration of Flowers and Vegetables” (International Exhibition zone)
Blue-toned beds inspired by Yokohama’s sky and sea, seasonal flowers surrounding the central “Future Bloom” sculpture, modern Japanese-style beds and potager gardens mixing vegetables, herbs and flowers. About 160 flower varieties and 20 vegetable varieties developed by Sakata will be planted, and plantings will change with the seasons. “Future Bloom” depicts a flower that does not yet exist, in kokihanada (deep blue) and moegi (yellow-green), with petal patterns inspired by kintsugi. Plants announced so far include lisianthus, Impatiens “SunPatiens,” Petunia “BeautiCal” and Sunflower “Vincent’s” (all at their best in July).
Limited-time indoor exhibitions (Indoor Exhibition Facility “HANAMEGURI”)
- May 2027, “A Hill of Happiness - Farm Table”: a flower hill and farm table centered on campanula
- July 2027, “A Tree of Flowers and Dreams - A Blossoming Path”: trees combined with lisianthus of many colors and forms
Each runs for nine days.
Sakata Green Service garden (Urban GX Village)
“An Ideal Way of Living in Harmony with Nature” follows a biotope stream from colorful perennials and annuals to a natural landscape of native trees and wild plants, with Yokohama-style red brick and sofas under a pergola.
